So, You Want to be a Notary

So, You Want to be a Notary?

Lots of kids grow up thinking they want to be famous.  They want to be an actor / actress, musician or maybe a sports personality.  They want all the trappings, which includes fans and strangers coming up to them asking for their picture or their autograph.  Eventually, their autograph sells on ebay for big $$.  I never really thought about any of that, but truth be told, people pay me for my signature everyday…I am a Notary.

No one grows up thinking they want to be an Officer of their State or that they want to show up to a stranger’s home and walk them through signing documents for the purchase, sale, or refinance of their home, and yet, here I am.  And here you are.  Welcome.

Being a Notary is interesting on lots of levels.  We are a respected entity, highly regarded and highly trusted.  Before I get too far and to ensure that we are all on the same page, let me explain something.

I think in terms of a ‘Regular’ Notary and a Notary Signing Agent (NSA).  No offense to anyone, that’s just how I keep it separate in my little head.

A ‘Regular’ Notary has their Commission, their Stamp, and a pen.  They Notarize random documents for random individuals or work at a company and they are the “go to” when an employee needs to have a document Notarized.

A Notary Signing Agent can do all that but is also specially trained to conduct mortgage closings – it takes more than you might think.

All of that said, we are the same under the skin and should be proud to be called ‘Notary’.

This blog is intended for the beginner or aspiring Notaries who are still trying to figure it all out or Newbies who just need some guidance or really any Notary who just might need a little help.  Afterall, we all need a little help now and again. Stick with me, I have a lot to talk about and tons of information to share.
