A Little Patience

They say patience is a virtue. I don’t know about that, but there are times when you will be tested. You have got to learn to be patient. If you have no patience, this is not the job for you.  Let me give you a short list of things that will likely happen to you at some point:

Docs will come late. Sometimes, very late. Sometimes, after the appointment start time.

Signers will forget you’re coming and/or not be home when you arrive.

Signers will show up late to your appointment or sometimes, not at all.

Some Signers will want to read every page or ask questions about every document.

Traffic will get in your way or you will hit every red light in your path.

You will get a flat tire.

You will run out of toner.

Your electricity will go out.

You will spill coffee or tea or something on yourself in the car.

You will lose track of time.

That’s just a short list. Obviously, not all of these things will happen at once, but life will ocassionally get in your way.

You must have patience. Patience with your Signers, with your Signing Agencies and / or Title Companies, the Lenders, your email provider, your computer, your printer, your scanner, your GPS, traffic, the Universe-at-Large and most especially, you must have patience with yourself.

The bottom line here is that life happens.  Remember, that while what you do is important, vital even, it is not life or death.

Getting mad does nothing for you. It might raise your blood pressure. It might put you in a negative light in the eyes of your Signer, your SA or your Title Company, maybe even your cat – and no one wants that. In the end, you are probably a human and as such, stuff happens. Smile and move on – besides, it might just make a great story some day.

Next up, let’s talk about having a Plan B. C. And, maybe even a Plan D.
